Well I was out of town for several days but it looks like I got back just in time. I went out today and we were able to find GREAT snow in several places. The best we found was over on Mt. Abundance though. Ive posted pics on the pic page so check those out. On another note we had one more avy call today. This was once again in those same chutes by Lulu. This has to be the 4th or 5th avy there this year. I cant stress enough that you guys need to ask about where you are going and ask about places to avoid when riding.

I took a group of guys out today who were staying here. We were easily able to find plenty of good snow just right off the trail in many places. We definitely didnt have to look hard. The new snow we got last night and today was starting to cover up lots of yesterdays tracks in most places. I added some pics in the picture section so check it out.

Went for a ride today. We have had epic snow the past couple of weeks and last night it got bitterly cold which will start to settle that up quick. Today though it warmed up to about 30 in town with blue skies so I went out looking for a group of guys I was supposed to hook up with. I never found them until I got BACK to town (how it usually happens) but I did put on a lot of miles myself. Iwent all the way out to Abundance and back along the left and right sides of the valley. Then I played on Henderson for a while and finally headed back in by way of Lulu. Ive got some pics of the ride and also I got to see Ben and Randy stuck down in Miller Creek winching their sleds out.

The snow is just ridiculous right now. We have been getting snow dumped on us for days. In town its been windy so you cant really tell but WOW out on the mountain. I uploaded some pics from yesterdays ride. Just on the normal loop down Daisy and up to Lulu there were people stuck all over the place.
We do need to remember about avy safety during these times though. Today for the first days in a while the skies have cleared up. I sure hope this doesnt entice guys to start banging on the hills.

Guys are having fun. We have gotten some fresh here in town today. No more than an inch. Avy danger is improving but that can change again with one good dump.

Snotel has shot up about 5" today. We have chances of snow everyday this week. Hopefully we keep building between now and Christmas. There already are quite a few people coming out this next weekend.
11-22-07
Happy Thanksgiving everybody! The snotel got up to 50" a couple days ago, which is ahead of last year at this time. There are lots of people coming to have fun for this holiday weekend.
11-17-07
We have been getting more snow here. Forecast is showing good chances of snow all the way through Wednesday. Snotel up to 34.6" right now.

Well welcome to another snowmobile season. *07/08* There are people already riding in Cooke although it is still the early season guys. Be very careful with those trailing arms and a-arms. We just got through with a series of storms and there should be more chances starting on Thursday. The Snotel at 9000' is showing 30" of snow. In town everything is white. Its still early but its not a bad start!
2006-2007 Season is Below

Its been warm here just like the rest of the west. The only people getting snow seems to be the east coast. Ive been out the past two days and its been spring riding. Its warms up by the afternoon so your trenching in and carving around some. With some scratchers I havent had any cooling issues. The trails were nice and groomed this weekend. With the snow being slushy and not freezing at night it has been almost impossible to groom. Thanks to the guys who go out all night and get that job done.

Ive been putting up a lot of pictures but not writing the reports to go along with them. The pictures speak for themselves I think :). We have been able to find good snow for quite a while now. Todays ride put us in some deep powder and we found ourselves digging out a lot. It was snowing on us all day and our tracks were semi covered on the way out.
2-20-07
The forecast is calling for heavy snow. You can tell from the pics the snow already has been great. Last night the Snotel jumped up 5" and the night before something like 4". The forecast is calling for heavy snow tonight and tomorrow. This could all equal some amazing riding BUT be careful of the avy conditions.
2-18-07
Went riding today with Jeff Pierce and Dan Micheals. Even with all the people in town over the weekend we found untracked powder all day. Ill get some pics up in the picture page. Guys you have to learn how to look for it.
2-14-07
Another 2-3 inches in town this morning. The guys out riding are having a great time!
2-12-07
We got pounded hard with some snow last night. Woke up to another 6 inches or so in town. The day before we got 3-4 inches overnight. I went out riding today to see how good it was. It was GREAT. Ive put up pictures in the picture section. It was over the hood powder which I have been craving. I had to take the Tundra since the big sleds broke.
2-10-07
Rode with the Lessard group from Grand Forks. Also Jack Anderson, Brad, and Ben Fox. This group is always a fun ride. Ive already posted pics in the picture section from todays ride. Check them out. There was plenty of powder everywhere we went. It was a foot or more in places. Untracked all over which Im sure the lucky folks who are here will take care of quickly. I ended my day with my belt grenading as I was turning out at the top of a chute. The sled rolled end over end until some trees were kind enough to stop it. Ill need a new shock and a few other parts. Oh well :)
2-9-07
Went out today with Bill and Kay from Antlers. Fun ride boondocking all over the place. You can definitely find powder out there if you are looking for it!! Ill get some pictures up.

Been a while since I went out. My throttle cable had snapped on the 999 so that grounded me for a little while. We have been without any noticeable amount of new snow for a little while now as well. Ive got some pics from a ride today where we did manage to find some powder and get a few guys stuck. Its always fun no matter what.
We did wake up to .5 to 1 inch of fresh in town this morning. The forecast is calling for some good chances of snow coming soon. Lets keep our fingers crossed for that one.
1-9-07
Weve been getting good snow on and off for a while now. Its been windy as well but its been able to accumulate. I went out for a little ride today with the gf and we were able to find good powder not too far off the highway actually. Its more of a learning experience for her on these rides. Shes still getting the hang of things. Id imagine that higher up the snow had to be even better.
The Snotel got up to 79" as of last night.
With all this new wind and snow the avy danger remains high - considerable. Prepare yourselves with knowledge first and foremost, then make sure you have the proper equipment. If not you can definitely rent it here in town.

Well the Christmas / New Years Holidays were a blast. We got hammered with snow right before New Years and the riding was great! We had our UYSC Hillclimb and Shootout which raised lots of money for local S&R, EMS, and the Snowmobile Club. Ive got some video of the shootou Ill be posting soon.
Yesterday and last night we got hammered again with snow. I went out riding today and got some quick video of it. It was over the hood powder in many places. I broke a throttle cable and ended my day too quickly though.
12-19-06
We got quite a bit of snow out of that last storm. I went out riding on Saturday the 16th with a group from Snowest. We headed back towards Round and tried a few different short climbs. We were easily able to get stuck a few times :). Since then the temps have dropped which is making all that new snow settle and increase the base.
We have the Shootout/Auction coming up soon for New Years. With a nice dump or two around that time on top of this new and improved base we will be GREAT!. Lets keep our fingers crossed on that one!
On a sadder note I do want to mention that we had an avy fatality over the weekend. I wont talk much about it but I will mention it to hopefully spark awareness by those reading this and planning on riding in the mountains. We can say these things a million times, but have your equipment and know how to use it. This group DID know how to use it and it was still not enough, so dont think that just because you have a beacon you are going to stay alive. Another key factor that initiated this slide is ONLY ONE RIDER ON A HILL AT A TIME!!!! Do not go up to help your buddy get unstuck!
On another topic the groomer did open up the Round Lake Trail on Sunday.
12-13-06
It is snowing hard here in Cooke. The snow is deep and over the hood. I dont have any pics from todays ride since it was for a training deal with S&R and we werent having much fun. Ill try to get some pics or video soon. The forecast is looking good as well.
11-30-06
I rode last Saturday with a group of guys from Snowest. The snow was good and there was fresh covering up the track from Friday's solo ride. It snowed very good that night and although I didnt go out Sunday, I saw pics from some of the guys rides who did (posted on Snowest Cooke Conditions thread) and the snow looked even better. They were pushing powder in spots. They left Sunday and we have received more and more snow since then. It is now Thursday and it has snowed on and off since Saturday with a day or so break in between. The Snotel is up over 40" now I believe. Its hard to tell since it seems to be mostly broken this year. Remember thats in an area that doesnt get loaded with snow anyway. Many of the riding areas have already accumulated a good bit more than that.
So for those of you wondering, YES you can come out, ride, and have a blast. Many guys are here doing just that. BUT you need to remember its still November when Im writing this. It isnt even December yet (by a few hours :) ) so dont come expecting a mid-January base. You still need to watch out for the bumps in the snow and also dont ride too much in the lower elevations. Get up higher or head back to Round, etc.
11-17-06
Well I went to Minneapolis for the snow show, which was fun, but apparently it started snowing the second I left! I got back to town 2 days ago and there had already been people here riding. Soooo I decided today I needed to go up and see what the snow was like. The rush of the first ride of the year and finally being able to ride again after summer was GREAT!!! As usual for this time of year the snow down low was less and I wouldnt recommend venturing offtrail. Once you get up top though go anywhere you want! I rode the Tundra today so I went off in places even down low, but I wont be breaking things either. It was great. There is several feet up top and its starting to form a nice base. I went up Daisy, then around to Lulu, and I tried climbing Lulu several times before calling it a day. Dont laugh... the 280 works hard :). I spoke with other riders who had gone over Lulu and climbed up and out of Daisy. For pre-Thanksgiving, the snow is as good as could be hoped for.
I posted pictures on the picture page.
11-4-06
Weve had snow off and on through October. Still not tons and not enough to ride. The forecast is calling for some big storms off the coast. I will definitely let you guys know
10-9-06
We got an ok snowfall here in town. It was enough to warrant me taking a drive up top. I usually like to do that after the 1st good snow of the year. Soon I wont be able to drive up there. There was 5-6" up top which is about the same as we got in town, maybe a little more. I put some pictures up on the picture page.
